Job Title: High School Reading RtI Specialist

 

Reports to: Executive Director of Teaching and Learning & Campus Administrator

 

Work Days: 187

 

Primary Purpose: The Reading RtI Specialist will identify the specific needs of struggling readers and writers, developing individualized instructional plans, implement the plans, and track students’ progress. The Reading RtI Specialist will provide instructional support and guidance for teachers in the reading and writing processes. 

 

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Campus Administrator experience preferred
  • Masters degree preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Thorough understanding of reading and writing processes
  • Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation, including how to write, align, and implement a sound curriculum
  • Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create supports based on stakeholder input

 

Experience:

  • Five or more years teaching experience and thorough understanding of reading and writing process

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Curriculum Development and Instructional Supports

 

  • Screen and identify struggling readers and writers (determine reading levels of students).
  • Work with the teachers and the instructional specialists to evaluate and analyze data through MAPS, eduphoria, student work samples, etc.
  • Identify resources that support tier 2 & 3 interventions.
  • Develop individual instructional and assessment plans for students that includes documentation of goal-setting and tracking progress.
  • Develop daily schedules that includes working with students in small groups or one on one through their English class.
  • During Flex period provide RtI support for identified students.
  • Facilitate RtI meeting to discuss student progress, make instructional decisions, and identify next steps. 
  • Train teachers in research based literacy instructional strategies and follow up with observation and coaching.
  • Provide support for teachers in lesson design and implementation of instructional strategies and formative assessment practices.
  • Co-teach model for struggling students.
  • Guide the ELA dept in the development and implementation of an instructional plan for EOC remediation.
  • Actively participate in PLC.

 

Professional Development

  • Research and stays current on the latest reading and writing resources to enhance instruction.
  • Use a coaching model to guide and support the use of best instructional and assessment practices for teachers.
  • Evaluate curriculum documents to ensure curriculum, instruction, assessment and resources are cohesive and tightly aligned. 
  • Design and deliver staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff in the reading and writing process to promote effective instruction to ensure successful program implementation in the classroom.

 

Other

  • Convey information to parents and community members about the reading and writing process. 
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
